| Celebrating 25 Years of 'Serving Our Servants'
The 200 Club of Bergen County was created with a grand purpose: To serve the county's Police, Fire and EMT personnel. By all accounts, the club is fulfilling its mission - and has aggressive plans for continuing to improve upon the support it provides.
The contributions provided by the 200 Club in support of law enforcement, fire and emergency services personnel, when totaled over the past 20 years, is substantial. Here's a quick look some of the ways the club has been able to give back.
-
Since its inception, the 200 Club has provided a $5,000 to $10,000 "death benefit" check and other financial support to the 30 + widows and/or dependant children our fallen heroes, totalingclose to $300,000.
Since the inception of the Valor Awards in 1987, more than 400 individuals and departments have been honored for their heroic and selfless acts.
Since 1998 inception of the Appropriations program, the 200 Club has provided more than $800,000 to various agencies throughout the county to purchase additional equipment to help strengthen their job performance and to better protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Bergen County.
Since 1988, when the Student Scholarship program began, the 200 Club has awarded well over100 $10,000 and now $12,000scholarships, committing over $1 million to the brightest and most civically responsible students in Bergen County.
The club is proud of its accomplishments, but in many ways those involved believe the 200 Club is just hitting its stride. "This club was able to provide fantastic support even in its infancy, when we had less then 500 members. With 1,300 members and counting, we believe the 200 Club is positioned to provide financial and emotional support to the county's public servants better than ever before."said Anthony Scardino, Jr., President Emeriuts.
The 200 Club's accomplishments - and the founders responsible for its formation and growth - were celebrated and honored on its 20th Anniversary Celebration, on June 29th 2005, at the Venetian, in Garfield, NJ.
"The 20th Anniversary Celebration was a fitting tribute to the law enforcement, fire and emergency services personnel of Bergen County and to the insipred leadership of those that create and grow the 200 Club," said Joe Parisi, Jr., a vice president with the 200 Club and 20th Anniversary event Chairman.
